As mentioned in our blogiversary post, an embroidered pendant recently found its new owner (and yes, it was a male reader that got drafted). Thanks to all who participated in the give-away competition - your comments made us really happy. Anyway, to give you at least a consolation prize I'll share with you the making of the dragon pendant.

The motiv has a diameter of 47 mm and is based on a fresco painting from Castel Roncolo in Bolzano / Italy (ca. 1388 - 1410).

The dragon is worked in split stitch with two shades of silk thread. As usual in the "opus anglicanum" technique, the lines follow the motiv contours to produce the "3D effect".

The progress after 2 hours of stitching...

... and after three hours of embroidery.

After 200 minutes of stitching, the dragon is finished. Now the background waits to be filled with colour.

The background is worked in cloister stitch and the thread is coloured a sunny yellow with the help of reseda and madder. The embroidery work for the background amounted to 175 Minutes.

After 6 1/4 hours of embroidery, the piece was ready to be framed in the mini embroidery hoop to serve as a dragon pendant.
